The little backpack tag that makes my “golden retriever child” a bit safer.

My son will happily follow a dog, a squirrel, or a shiny rock without looking back. I wanted something simple that could help him find his way back to me if he ever got turned around after school.

So we made these bright little “Tap for Emergency Contact” tags and accidentally ended up with a small batch.

Why I made these

This isn’t a big fancy tech product. I’m just a mom who wanted one extra layer of “okay, he’ll get back to me.”

I didn’t want my phone number written huge on his backpack, but I did want an adult to be able to reach me quickly if he ever got lost, upset, or just ended up in the wrong spot.

  • Simple Tap the tag with a smartphone → my number appears.
  • Quiet No loud alarms, no apps to download, nothing to log into.
  • Kid-proof Bright, chunky tag that clips right onto a zipper or strap.
  • Private(-ish) Our number isn’t printed giant on the outside of his bag.

Simple, safe, secure (in mom language)

Simple

Inside the tag is a tiny NFC chip (the same kind your phone uses to tap-pay). When someone taps the tag with their phone, it opens a page with the contact info you choose.

No batteries, no charging, no app.

Safe

The only thing it shares is what we put on it: your phone number. It doesn’t track your child, it doesn’t “follow” them, and it can’t listen or record.

It’s basically a digital version of “If found, please call mom.”

Secure

If our number ever changes or I want to update the info, I can re-program the chip instead of throwing the whole tag away. The chip itself is sealed inside the plastic.

No one can see or “guess” information by just looking at the tag.

How it works in real life

1
Clip it on the backpack.
I just attach it to his zipper or strap like a normal keychain.
2
If he’s lost or upset, an adult taps it.
Most modern phones can tap the tag and instantly open his emergency contact page.
3
They call or text me right away.
No searching for office numbers or guessing which parent to call.

Questions you might be thinking

Does every phone work?

Most newer smartphones can tap NFC tags (it’s the same tech used for tap-to-pay).

What info goes on the tag?

Right now I’m keeping it very simple: just one parents phone number

Is this a “real” business yet?

Honestly? Not really. I made these for my own kid, and a few friends said, “Hey, I’d love one of those.” So this page is just to see who else is interested before I go too wild with the 3D printer.
